Mumbo Jumbo Stalls!
A carriage on Mumbo Jumbo, the roller coaster at Flamingo Land Resort, Kirby Misperton, North Yorkshire stalled yesterday, leaving passengers stranded upside down for around 20 minutes. Staff attended to the passengers, who were suspended 50 feet up, via a cherry picker. Peter Baron posted the following picture on Twitter. Mumbo Jumbo was built by American manufacturer S&S Power, and boasts the worlds steepest drop at 112 degrees from almost 100 feet. It cost Flamingo Land £4 million when it opened in July last year. The coaster pulls GForces of around 4 in places, equivelant to those experienced by fighter pilots. It features in the Guinness Book of Records. Elliot Richards, Park Executive, said today the problem arose at about 5.30 pm yesterday when a single car containing two riders stalled. “The ride safety system immediately activated stopping a second car, containing three riders, in a safety brake section.” “As a result of these circumstances, Flamingo Land implemented its Evacuation and Rescue Procedure. All five riders were successfully evacuated without injury in quick succession, due to the speedy response of the Flamingo Land Operations Department.” He said a preliminary investigation had revealed there were no faults with the ride, and the car stalled due to a freak occurrence involving an item of clothing - a poncho - becoming entangled within the ride’s mechanism. He added that Mumbo Jumbo opened as planned for thrill seekers as normal today. Discuss this story on our forum.
