A fire has broken out in the Skyride station building just outside Ugland at Alton Towers. Early reports say that the mainly wooden building has been completely destroyed. The alarm was raised at around 1030 pm and firefighters were quickly on the scene. The park was closed at the time and no one was injured. The area, between Cloud Cuckoo Land and Ugland is where construction work is taking place for the New Coaster, Secret Weapon 6, which opens in 2010. The Skyride is a Cable Car system, used to transport guests from the entrance to the park to Forbidden Valley and Ugland. A fire caused severe damage to the Skyride Station in Forbidden Valley almost two years ago, that time the roof of the Station was destroyed. The Theme Park will open as normal today, although the Area around the station will be cordoned off to allow Fire Investigators to establish the cause of the fire. It is expected that the Skyride will remain closed for the foreseeable future.
