About this deal

It has been reissued since then by several publishers, including its 75th anniversary illustrated edition. Her father had begun teaching her Latin, then French, German, and Greek when she was only 7 years old which probably was a factor in her interests later and her great scholarly success. It looks really cool and considering the other reviews my book wasn’t damaged at all and arrived it excellent shape!

In 1930, when she was sixty-three years old, she published The Greek Way, in which she presented parallels between life in ancient Greece and in modern times. The following year, she and her sister Alice went to Germany and were the first women students at the universities of Munich and Leipzich. From the extracts the textual content seems the same but where it seems to differ are the illustrations and the position of the Contents in the book. There is about a page of rambling prose in the introduction in which the words "myth", "religion" and "Nature" appear together prominently, but no coherent thesis is advanced.Although the myths remain unchanged, the way that we think about them has evolved considerably over the last 150 years. Norse Section, I love the little bits of Norse Mythology we get here, but unfortunately provided very little, that it feels like an afterthought. Bought for a present for my son who is really into Greek Mythology at the moment and, though perhaps aimed at older people than he, I'm sure that he will love the look of and information within this book!

At home, Hamilton was a recipient of many honorary degrees and awards, including election to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In 1895 she moved back to Germany with her sister to study humanities and classics at the university of Munich (the then centre of classical studies). Não li nada que já não soubesse, mas li-o pela mão de uma verdadeira apaixonada, de uma comunicadora excelsa, de uma fantástica perita que abriu caminho a muitas outras mulheres no campo dos Estudos Clássicos. Pindar in the early fifth century tells the tale about the feast Tantalus made the gods and protests that it is not true. I never really understood back then why it seemed that I was one of the few who enjoyed reading this and majority of our class despised having to be given the assignment to read it.

This book can be considered the best reference material for those interested in knowing more about mythology. Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes is a book written by Edith Hamilton, published in 1942 by Little, Brown and Company. I really enjoy reading Mythology and Edith Hamilton’s ‘Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes’ has been no exception. What I’m not sure about is if I would have found this easy to read when I knew a very tiny amount about Greek and Roman Mythology and Norse Mythology. For more than seven decades readers have chosen this book above all others to discover the enchanting world of mythology -- from Odysseus's adventure-filled journey to the Norse god Odin's effort to postpone the final day of doom.I'm also not a pretentious asshole who is going to pretend I lurved it to pieces just to look smart. This also can serve as a good reference text when approaching Greek Myths, but still by itself it's quite engaging. and fits the fairytale mode with how Psyche finds a perfect love with Cupid but after losing him is put through a series of trials to be reunited with Cupid, and live happily ever after. One that stood out was the Wine God, Dionysus, and his Bacchantes/Maenads (Wine-maddened/berserker women). Doutora honoris causa de várias universidades e devota dos ideais clássicos, Hamilton tornou-se, aos noventa anos de idade, cidadã honorária da cidade de Atenas.
