About this deal

Overall, I found it really interesting and I will for sure read it again in the future if I somehow lose inspiration or find myself at a low point. One of the few times that I have read a book by a celebrity and I knew they wrote every single word. You’re That Bitch welcomes you into Bretman Rock’s world–from how his childhood in the Philippines, his family, Filipino culture, and being a first-generation immigrant helped shape him into who he is today. I don't like to rate memoirs/autobiographies because I find rating someone's life trashy and completely off tase. I wasn't sure he needed a book with his life already covered on social media, TV and YouTube , but it was nice to get his organized thoughts on life. The use of humor and relatable anecdotes adds a touch of lightness to the profound messages conveyed. With a combined following of over 45 million globally, you may recognize Bretman from his reality series, MTV's Following: Bretman Rock or his YouTube Originals limited series, 30 Days With: Bretman Rock.

It was so lovely to read about Bretman’s experience with gender identity and I am definitely going to re-read and highlight the passages that resonated with me. Family, being your baddest and most confident self, and mental health are just a few the examples he dives into, and these are definitely some of the things readers can apply to their own lives. But I wanted the book to circle back into the reader while sharing my story and telling them that you’re that b--ch as well. Biography: Bretman Rock is a digital entertainer, known for his unique sense of comedy, genderbending fashion and helping to pioneer the new standard of genderless beauty. Plus, Asian Americans and Asian immigrants are increasingly facing hate and violence, so I’m passionate about helping create more positive visibility for us— especially for brown Asians—I n entertainment, beauty and fashion.

The book is a hilarious romp through his life, from how he became a social media phenomenon at 14 to his hustler spirit and spilling the tea around cancel culture, heartbreak, and lessons on how to love yourself (oh, and that time he lost his virginity at Disneyland). The tone is so well established through the dialogue utilised throughout each of his stories, and his voice radiates pure confidence. It's equal parts memoir and self-help conveyed in the most entertaining, expletive-laced manner possible. It made me question why we saw only light-skinned Filipino people in Filipino pop culture — like in movies and on TV.

Sometimes I’m lazy, I get bored, I get scared, I feel ignored, I feel happy, I get silly, I choke on my own words. My favorite kinds of videos to watch right now are Business Insider and real estate shows, and I’m excited for my audience to see that. What I will say is that I went into this book with certain expectations, thinking that Bretman (who I love and find hilarious) is a very one dimensional character on social media, but he shows a different side of himself and I’m happy to say I finished this book with a different view of him.I wouldn’t have imagined he’s had some of the experiences he’s had just from the glimpse of his personality and life I’ve gotten as his Instagram follower.

I bought the physical book to support him but I listened to the audiobook and that’s truly the way to go so you feel every “BITCH! Throughout the book, I found myself feeling uplifted and motivated to become the best version of myself. With his signature honesty, this is an unfiltered and unprecedented look at what it means to be one of the first digital celebrities and that bitch--from dealing with cancel culture, drama and heartbreak, to what it means to love yourself and your community. What I liked most was the fact that it was inspirational, not only do you get to read behind the scenes of an influencer but you also get inspired and learn a lot from it - at least I did. You're That Bitch welcomes you into Bretman Rock's world―from how his childhood in the Philippines, his family, Filipino culture, and being a first-generation immigrant helped shape him into who he is today. Though Rock’s discussions of gender are mostly enlightening, his descriptions of transcending the binary often fall victim to stereotypes.
