About this deal

Unwrap the cake from the day before and rub the palm of your hand on the cake’s edges to remove any loose crumbs. As this book is written from the authors point of view remembering something that happened as a child. This book is not a good book for teaching children directional reading because not all of the words go left to right in a straight line. I would love to try this book out with a reception/ key stage 1 class because most children love chocolate cake, but to secretly eat the whole cake would be a dream to most children.

By doing this you are making buttermilk; you can replace the ¾ teaspoon of cream of tartar with ½ tablespoon lemon juice or ½ tablespoon vinegar. Furthermore, Miachel Rosen himself has a Youtube channel where he reads the poem in an incredibly funny and engaging manner. Kevin works with gouache, pen and ink (he broke lots of nibs making the pink scratches you see on the hippo in Tiny Little Fly!Right off the back of reviewing "I Really Want the Cake" by Simon Philip and Lucia Gaggiotti, this is another great tale of a midnight feast gone wrong. He’s one of the best-loved figures in the children’s book world, renowned for his work as a poet, performer, broadcaster and educational campaigner.

The story is about a little boy (a little Michael Rosen really) sneaking downstairs in the middle of the night, when everyone else is fast asleep, to look at a big chocolate cake his mum has made… and then, of course, he’s unable to resist having a few crumbs… and then a bit more… until the whole cake is gone! In Michael's July 2018 livestream, he mentioned that he also sneaked downstairs a few times in the middle of the night to have some caramel wafers, not just chocolate cake. DISCLAIMER: This is a transcript for a video of Michael performing the poem/book, not a transcript from the actual poem/book itself. If you’re feeling ambitious and can hold your children at bay, you could even smear it all over the sides but we didn’t get that far as T was poised with pots of sprinkles. Using a hand-beater, mix to combine, then slowly add hot water and mix well, until you have a smooth batter.

Couldn't help but hear Michael's voice reading the story in my head and with all the fabulous noises to make, this would certainly be perfect for reading aloud. There’s also an added bonus: the final product has some serious shelf life— it will keep fresh for days, and it freezes well if you would like to bake it ahead of time. Another literacy activity could be creating some "frosting", maybe some brown paint or dyed shaving cream, and having children practice writing letters with it so it adds a sensory element to the experience. I have been able to be a part of many lessons where this poem has been used and each and every time it captivates the children. Also, this may be a great time to note that I apparently am not capable of beating eggs to stiff peaks. Best book to settle nerves and stomachs plenty of licopene ( found in tomatoes) in the tomatoes and fills empty stomachs with heightened sweetness. His mum would bake up a storm, making the most amazing chocolate cakes and if Michael was lucky, he'd get a slice in his school lunchbox if there was any left over.

The poem is a clear favourite in my classroom and this book is lovely - it has cute illustrations and I like how the text is scattered across the pages. Rosen leaves it up to readers' imaginations what his punishment was, but does clearly say he was being greedy. Soften the butter (in a warm place or with a quick nuke in a microwave), then sieve in the icing sugar and cocoa.

He illustrated Tiny Little Fly (Walker Books), written by Michael Rosen which won the Bull-Bransom Award in 2011. The sumptuous use of onomatopoeia and descriptive language makes it a wonderful book to use in the classroom. As the most iconic and well-known children’s book brand in the UK today, we are always on the lookout for innovative ways to tell the world’s favourite stories and for brilliant new debut talent and brands that connect with today’s young readers, from newborn up to twelve years old. Our mission is to inspire children to feel they can be and do anything, and to create readers for life.Michael Rosen is one of the best known figures, not only in the children's book world but also the British arts scene. For this book, I would take advantage of the sounds and have children draw a map of how to get to their favorite food and what kind of noises might they encounter during their excursion to the food. It could be used in technology as children could bake a chocolate cake, and look at recipes and their features, which could also be done with KS2 children. By accident I gave Mustard Custard to my niece twice as I forgot that I had given it to her the year earlier.
