About this deal

Whilst I wouldn’t trust anyone in this book, with the obvious exception of Archer and his allies, I wasn’t expecting what actually comes to pass at all. We are—well, ask Bigfoot, as Brooks does in this delightful yarn, following on his bestseller World War Z (2006). The 1950s weren’t the fabled good old days, but they’re fodder for gritty crime stories of high ideals and lowlifes, of longing and disappointment, and all the trouble a PI can handle. It will be interesting to see where the author takes Archer since this appears to be his new series.

He has an almost effortless, rhythmic writing style that involves the James Patterson short chapter approach to move the plot forward. Despite the police being involved, Archer’s investigation sees him dealing with Hollywood stars and film studio executives, as he discovers secrets, more bodies and the seedy underworld at grave personal danger to himself. Bill Clinton on One Good Deed One Good Deed represents David Baldacci’s move into historical crime with a new character, ex-jailbird Aloysius Archer . However, back in 2019, Baldacci introduced a new character – World War II veteran Aloysius Archer – in “One Good Deed” and opened readers up to a different historical era, that of post-war, 1949. While there a mousy woman named Eleanor Lamb approaches Archer with a shocking accusation that someone is out to kill her, and she'd like to hire Archer to find out who it is and what they want.A lifelong Virginian, David is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Virginia School of Law. When I read the synopsis for this book, I just knew that I was going to enjoy it and boy did I ever! It doesn’t take long for the job to take a turn for the bizarre when Archer finds a man murdered in Lamb’s house and, to top it off, Lamb has disappeared off the face of the planet. Before the next 24 hours are over, Archer finds a dead body in Eleanor’s home, gets attacked, stumbles into a probable smuggling ring, and finds his client has disappeared. Private investigator and World War II veteran Aloysius Archer heads to Los Angeles, the city where dreams are made and shattered, and is ensnared in a lethal case.

The book captures the glamour of the era, the rise of the Hollywood star and the importance of the movie studios and the people who pull the strings, but also the seedier side of the town. With the help of Liberty and his PI partner Willie Dash, Archer will risk everything and leave no stone unturned in finding the missing Eleanor Lamb, and in bringing to justice killers who would love nothing better than to plant Archer six feet under.I always enjoy a new Baldacci novel and I really like Aloysius Archer so I was looking forward to this one. David Baldacci plays his cards very close to his chest and manages to leave the really big reveals to those critical points in the story, at stages where the impact will be very keenly felt. Edoardo Ballerini и Brittany Pressley, които успяват да придадат на всеки един от персонажите отделна индивидуалност, дарявайки ги със собствени отличителни гласове, историята оживява почти като филм.
