About this deal

Audiences responded to the Frank Capra-style sentimentality of this warm-hearted tale of a good ol' American boy making his way in the world without ever losing his pure and simple innocence. He has an endearing character and shows devotion to his loved ones and duties, character traits that bring him into many life-changing situations. Thanks to Robert Zemeckis and Tom Hanks, even the most cynical critic will find it hard not to shed at least one tear by the end of this undeniably engrossing movie. Visual effects supervisor Ken Ralston compared the feather to an abstract painting: "It can mean so many things to so many different people. This is the film's most perplexing period — especially as Zemeckis, apparently not paying attention, scores it with triumphant music and peppers it with shticky comedy.

In this day of self-destruction, the purity of Gump's life is enviable and worth pursuing, but not so for its disengagement. Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions.

The title character leads viewers through an accidental travelogue of American social history from the early 1960s through the present in this revisionist fable. There's an old philosophical question: Who is happier, the fool content to spend his days occupied by the simple pleasures of a push-pin toy, or the intellectual, who fills his time wrestling with the unanswerable riddles of the universe? Of course, this inept effecting is only confounded by the poor gag-like stupidity of each of these scenes, rendering them worthless in both style and substance, and certainly nothing to brag about, especially in the wake of Jurassic Park. Its an engaging story of a low IQ main character who not only survives but thrives somewhat against the odds. The lighthouse that Forrest runs across to reach the Atlantic Ocean the first time is the Marshall Point Lighthouse in Port Clyde, Maine. His Vietnam war plays like a late-night ad for a 1960s-era soundtrack collection, and when a character is stricken with AIDS, it is a pretty AIDS that makes the skin beautifully pale and takes life quietly (just the opposite of the hideous disfiguring illness that devoured Hanks the previous year in Philadelphia). Dick Cavett as himself: Cavett played a de-aged version of himself in the 1970s, with makeup applied to make him appear younger. One day, the two are walking, and come across the now-abandoned house of Jenny's father, where Jenny, in a rage, throws all the rocks she can find at it, until she collapses in anguish.
